Duct Heaters
High efficiency, compactness and ease of installation make the utilization of a Forced- Air Duct Heater an ideal solution in applications where fan-forced heating is required. Two designs are available based on the operating temperature;
- Medium performance ducted heater, for up to 750°F outlet temperatures
- High-performance ducted heater, for up to 1100°F outlet temperatures
The heat source is a set of tubular elements that are arranged in an optimum configuration to minimize the pressure drop.

Recommended protective devices for Duct Heaters
- Air-flow switch: Installed on the inlet side of the air duct heater, air-flow switches prevent the energizing of heaters when there is no airflow.
- Over temperature Protection: A type “K” high-limit thermocouple attached to one of the heating elements monitors the temperature. The thermocouple is attached to a controller that has a manual reset.
- Fan interlock: To prevent the duct heater from energizing when the fan is not running, the fan starter circuit is interlocked with the heater controls. A time delay can be incorporated in order to keep the fan running after the heater gets de-energized.

Understanding Duct heating Systems:
Duct Heating Systems are a simple solution for providing heat into an area of forced air. This allows your Heater to provide heat to your specific area or areas without being exposed to the product and from a remote location. Your duct heating solution may be unique, but would work very similar to a home heating system. There is a central heater and a duct system, simple or complex with a blower of some sort to move air over your Electric Duct heater. This allows the heat to travel safely to your application and there is a reliable system to cool the heater at a specific rate.
Features and Advantages of Duct Mounted Electric Heaters:
Some of the features of a Duct Mounted Electric Heaters is the ability to heat without taking any space in your oven, or chamber. Duct Mounted Electric Heaters allow for more aggressive air flow and are designed to keep an environment from still or stagnant heat. The design of your system can also allow your temperature to be very uniform and can keep adding heat in order to maintain an ambient temperature to be fixed within a very accurate range. Duct Mounted Heaters can have the temperature controlled at the source of heat or in your application air temp. They can also be controlled by both pre air and post air temperatures. This flexibility allows for very creative solutions for your Electric Duct heater applications.
Efficient Heat Distribution:
Although there are many options to heat a process, Electric Duct heaters are a very good choice for Efficient Heat Distribution. They can send a flow of air into a single or multiple locations by the layout of the duct work and based on the velocity of air and the inlet air temperature, you can control very accurately the output temperature. This can be very helpful in large areas and allows for the application to use all of the workable space to be used for your product or application.
Safety and Reliability Considerations for Duct Heaters:
Bucan is a duct heater manufacturer in Canada and safety is our top priority. We build all heaters to CSA Standards and have family approval for designs that meet the documented requirements. The ability to mount you duct heater anywhere in your duct flow will keep your access right where you need it and the ability to change units can revise heat profiles. This is a great consideration for reliability. They are not in direct contact or proximity of your application. This makes the extreme heat from the element safely contained in an isolated location. This keeps your process and employees much safer. These heaters can easily be fitted with Temperature control features such as thermocouples, thermostats and other over temp safety features.
Protective Devices and Temperature Controls:
To maximize your application needs, Bucan can implement a temperature control device and/or protective device. This can be critical to the success of your process. Our temperature controls can measure either the Ducted Heater temperature or the Process temperature. In some cases we can and should measure both. Based on the environment and the precision of required temperature control, we can advise what type of temperature sensor would be most successful. Please work with our design team to discuss any concepts you may have!
Maximizing the Benifits of Duct Heating Systems:
The success of any process is the finished product or end application. To assist with your most efficient heater design, we can offer many design concepts and choices of size, shape, power, and voltage options. The best way to maximize your benefit is to explore designs that have been successful in the past and integrate them into your system. Our Expert Sales team can advise what types of Duct Heaters have been successful in similar systems and similar requests.
